While critically acclaimed, the record did not sell well. The band blamed the album's poor performance on the declining ratings of nostalgia TV show Happy Days — where the arrival of Ted McGinley signaled, much like it later would on Married, With Children, the end of the show's creative life — and the self-destruction of spinoff, Joanie Loves Chachi.

Oddly, no mention was made of the more successful spinoffs, Mork and Mindy, and Laverne and Shirley, although Cyborg was once spotted on Sunset Blvd. wearing rainbow suspenders and sporting a jacket with "The Big Ragu" embroidered on the back.
